Dr. Marra is a Naturopathic doctor specializing in the successful treatment of Borreliosis/tick-borne illness and has been an ILADS (International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society) member since 2001. She has a Bachelor and Master’s degree in Psychology and is a graduate of Bastyr University. Dr. Marra has a unique perspective on chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, Lyme Disease and associated chronic illnesses, drawing on her more than 35 years experience in healthcare, basic science, clinical application and medicine. She trained with Charles Ray Jones, MD for pediatric and adolescent Borreliosis/Lyme Disease care, and Richard Horowitz, MD for adult Borreliosis/Lyme Disease care. Cumulatively, Dr. Marra trained for 6 years on the east coast in both Connecticut and New York, close to Lyme, Connecticut where the US Lyme Disease epidemic is presumed to have started over 35 years ago. She was also the first Naturopathic doctor to receive an ILADS training preceptorship award from the Turn The Corner Foundation, and contributed a chapter to the 2009 publication “Insights Into Lyme Disease.” Most recently, Dr. Marra was chosen as “Physician of the Month” by the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine.
Additionally, in January 2018, Dr. Marra completed a rigorous nutrigenomic course through the Nutrigenomic Research Institute (Bob Miller) and is now formally qualified to provide nutrigenomic analysis, especially in regards to tick-borne illness and genomics. She is excited to offer this new therapeutic dimension to her practice to help patients heal from Lyme disease.
Her practice is a unique blend of core Functional Medicine principles coupled with information from a variety of different disciplines including: evolutionary biology, microbiology, immunology, psychobiology, infectious disease, neuroendocrinology, traditional medicine, alternative medicine, nutrition, herbal medicine, intuitive science, logic, reason, and spirituality to help her patients gain optimal health. She has an unusual balance of talent in both art and science that contributes to a more integrated and holistic treatment for her patients. The incorporation of left and right brain strengths in her practice, allows for a rich healing experience for her patients. Dr. Marra’s dedication to continued learning and training in her field of expertise is evident by her attendance at multiple annual professional conferences. In her 18 year career as a physician, she has treated over 10,000 patients, most of which move on to lead highly productive lives.
She also trained extensively with Alan R. Gaby, MD, a nutritional medicine expert, while she was a student at Bastyr University. Additionally, while attending school, she worked with Dr. Carlo Calabrese and Dr. Leanna Standish to open the first natural medicine research clinic to study Echinacea with the German phytoceutical company, Madaus Murdock, in Cologne, Germany. Her basic science background includes working at the National Institutes of Mental Health in Bethesda, Maryland and at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Prior to this, she was a member of the Connecticut Association of Naturopathic Physicians. Dr. Marra continually uses new information in her practice so that patients receive state of the art healthcare for tick –borne illness. Dr. Marra strives to be at the forefront of medicine and science to deliver safe and effective healthcare to all of her patients. She is also Board Certified in Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine which helps patients heal from chronic infection that can cause cellular aging.
This requires keeping current with new science through literature and conferences. Her goals are clear and precise for returning her patients to function and wellness. She has a network of other healthcare practitioners around the globe from different specialties that she works with to ensure quality care for her patients. Dr. Marra currently lives in Seattle with her puppy, Charlotte. She enjoys all of the arts as well as the Pacific Northwest mountains, sunsets, ethnic music, food and ocean water. She is a native of Pittsburgh, PA, and enjoys the west coast for its’ abundant natural beauty. Dr. Marra loves the natural world, and when you visit her office, you can experience an interesting collection of shells, geodes, crystals, and minerals found in nature that she has collected while traveling the world. Her love of nature and art are evident in her work as a doctor and contribute to her more holisitic and integrated style of practicing medicine.
