Ticks are ABSOLUTELY present here in Kitsap County as a friend just found a tick on Juju’s belly (see facebook page (11/13/2025) and it was attached and engorged. He pulled it off and we went to the vet and she said that in the last year there has been a huge increase in dogs coming in that have ticks attached and then test positive for Ehrlichia and Anaplasma. If you are camping, hiking, or spending time outdoors in Washington, protect yourself. Use essential oils such as eucalyptus, lemongrass, or clove and apply them directly to your clothing and skin. You can also purchase Permethrin-impregnated clothing online for added protection. Knowing when to stop antibiotics while treating tick-borne disease (TBD) is a highly individualized and personalized decision. There is no one-size-fits-all approach because it depends on multiple factors, including: – Pathogen load – Detoxification ability – Immune system function – Presence of mycotoxins – Co-infections or Covid – Chemical exposures such as glyphosate – Life stress levels – Diet quality – Sleep hygiene – Hydration status In my clinical experience, I generally treat until all symptoms have resolved — and then continue for an additional three months to ensure stability. After that, I transition the patient to herbal protocols for maintenance and monitor for relapse. If symptoms recur, this typically indicates the need to restart antibiotics and repeat the cycle, with continued focus on detoxification, immune support, and environmental health. How do you know when to stop antibiotics when treating tick borne disease is an individual personalized issue because it is dependent on so many factors including: pathogen load, detox ability, immune function, mycotoxin presence, Covid presence, chemical presence like glyphosate, life stress, diet, sleep hygiene, hydration, etc…There is “no one size fits all.” Generally I treat until there are no symptoms and then 3 more months. Then transition to herbs for maintenance and see if the patient relapses. If the patient relapses, then they need to begin antibiotics again and repeat the cycle. ABOUT DR. GAD65 is a Labcorp test that measures glutamic acid decarboxylase, the enzyme responsible for converting glutamate (an excitatory neurotransmitter) into GABA (an inhibitory neurotransmitter) in the brain. When GAD65 levels are elevated, it may be a marker of neuroinflammation and could suggest the presence of autoimmune central nervous system (CNS) disease. In these cases, additional imaging is often warranted. Follow-up tests may include: – MRI of the brain – SPECT scan to evaluate cerebral blood flow abnormalities, which can also contribute to neuroinflammation.
