Episode 68: Bartonella in the Esophagus, mouth and throat
Oxalates are molecules found in certain foods such as spinach and cashews that are formed as the combination end product of several amino acids such as serine, glycine, and ascorbic acid, that can combine with calcium (a naturally occur ion in the blood also from food) in the blood to form calcium oxalate crystals. These oxalate crystals are needle shaped crystals called raphides. They are readily absorbed after ingestion, cannot be metabolized by mammals, and are largely eliminated through renal excretion. Calcium oxalate crystals get filtered by the glomeruli in the kidney unless they are large, and then they become “stuck” in the nephrons and form kidney stones, especially if you have the genetic propensity. Oxalates are toxic to the renal epithelial cells and can cause membrane injury. The common upper limit of normal for oxalate excretion is 45mg/day (0.5mmol/day). Chronic vitamin C oral use can also cause hyperoxaluria and kidney stones. Bacterial biofilms are gelatinous mucopolysaccharides with proteins, lipids, and DNA, that are produced by the microorganisms to protect themselves from the hosts’ immune system, toxic substances, competitive bacteria, and harsh environments. They attach to a substrate and persister cells are the most difficult to treat and they are closest to the vessel or tissue surfaces. You can treat biofilms with proteolytic enzymes, DMPS, DMSA, alpha lipoic, and bismuth carefully taken on an empty stomach. There are several supplements that an help reduce inflammation in the body that results from infection, allergies, or a wound. Curcumin (turmeric) is a very strong anti-inflammatory natural substance that is found in food. PEA helps with joint pain and whole body pain. Saloxicin is white willow bark (natural aspirin) and is great for lowering inflammation anywhere in the body. MSM is a natural substance that contains sulfur but also very helpful in combination with curcumin or Saloxicin to manage inflammation. Episode 62: Inflammation Supplements
Lyme disease and coinfections can be tested for in several different ways. An immunoblot measures the antibodies that are produced by B cells in the bone marrow in response to a pathogen or allergen. IgM and IgG are for pathogens, IgA is for the mucosa, and IgE are for allergens. Antibodies are an INDIRECT measure of the immune system response to an offending agent. PCR (polymerase chain reaction) is another type of test that actually captures the DNA of the organism present but it DOES NOT tell you whether or not the organism is alive. The FISH test (flourescent insitu hybridization) actually captures a visual of the organisms present in a blood smear. Too much estrogen can affect thyroid hormones causing elevated TSH and low T3 and T4. High estrogen can interfere with appropriate T3 levels by interfering with the conversion of T4 to T3. Episode 57: Amlexanox and MCAS
Tick borne illnesses CAN absolutely cross the placenta and be transferred to the fetus. This is called vertical transmission. 2 months before you want to get pregnant you should go on Zithromax and Amoxicillin and take them with Nystatin throughout the entire pregnancy. If you also have Babesia, after the first trimester, you can add Malarone to the mix but NOT during the first trimester. At delivery, you will want to get 3 samples of cord blood from 3 different areas of the cord, send the sample to Igenex, and have a Lyme PCR test run on the cord blood. If you are breastfeeding, you will want to stay on antibiotics until you stop because these infections have been found in breast milk. Contrast Thermography is using an infrared camera, allows for the detection of inflammation/infection via a thermogram/picture. Most of the picture will be black and gray with the exception of where there is inflammation and that area will be red and orange. You can’t miss it.
